Ex-Chifeng mayor sentenced to death

Updated: 2009-08-21 17:39 The former mayor of Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, Xu Chifeng, was sentenced to death with two years of probation for bribery and for possessing a huge amount of property with unidentified sources, the chinacourt.org reported today. Xu's wife, Li Minjie, received a three-year sentence for taking bribes and concealing her criminal income. During his tenure from 2002 to 2007, Xu took 12.41 million yuan in bribes. Seperately, the couple together took another 170,000 yuan in bribes. Xu's property totaled as much as 14.11 million yuan before his arrest but he could not identify sources of the property. |
