Macao restores Chinese thinker's residence

Updated: 2009-03-06 23:58 MACAO -- The old residence of the historically-renowned Chinese thinker, Cheang Kun Ying, is expected to be completed this year, the Macao Daily Times reported on Friday. When the renovation of Cheang's mansion, located near Macao's Lilau Square, is completed, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (ICM) of the Special Administrative Region (SAR) plans to open it as part of the Macao Historic Center to the public with the display of Cheang's relic and other works, according to the daily. Since last year, the Museum of Macao and the Shanghai Library have been in collaboration to look for Cheang-related items and have later published a few books, including one that records the letters sent between Cheang and his children, according to the daily. The daily also quoted Heidi Ho Lai Chun, president of ICM, as saying that the cooperation is still ongoing, especially to look for Cheang's immediate family members, such as his children's works which may be related to the art scene, so that they can also be showcased inside the mansion. Not only does the project aims at letting the young generation "appreciate the beauty of the architectural style", but also to " pass on Cheang's spirit and ideology", the ICM chief also said. |
