The Qingdao Gulf Bridge, an over 35 kilometer long huge sea-flyover designed to connect two peninsulas of the Jiaozhou Bay, is now busy under construction in east China's coastal province of Shandong.

The Qingdao Gulf Bridge is the first major comprehensive bridge project ever undertaken in the cold, frost-prone coastal areas of north China, Xinhua News Agency reported on Thursday.

The entire length of the bridge will be 35.4 kilometers. So far, over 80 percent of its pier foundations and nearly half of its pier pillars have been completed.

The bridge is scheduled to be put into use in 2010. Connecting city Qindao in the northeast and Huangdao in the southwest across the Jiaozhou Bay, the bridge will cut the driving time from the city to the Economic and Technological Development Area in Huangdao by 20 minutes and the distance by 30 kilometers.
