HOTAN, Xinjiang -- One Russian who went missing in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region during a canoeing trip was rescued on Friday.

Chinese and Russian rescuers found the survivor on the banks of the upper reaches of the Yurungkax River at about 10:30 am Friday soon after they came to the location.

The survivor, identified as Alexander Zverev, is able to talk and walk with clear consciousness. His face appears pale and his body is covered with mud and dust.

A helicopter transported Zverev to Hotan Airport at about 11:30 am and he is on the way to a local hospital.

A group of six Russians started a rafting trip along the Yurungkax River in Xinjiang in mid-August but failed to meet their Chinese interpreter in the southern city of Hotan as planned on September 2.

Bodies of three of them have been recovered and rescuers are still searching for the two missing.
