Cross-straits conference on contemporary Chinese opens(CRIENGLISH.com )Updated: 2006-11-14 13:46 The 2nd Cross-straits Academic Conference on Contemporary Chinese has opened in Macao on Monday. The seminar has attracted over 30 experts and scholars from seven Asian countries and regions. Xu Ao Ao, Rector of Macao University of Science and Technology, said in addition to having the same ancestry, the origin is the same for all the dialects spoken across China. As well, they share the same cultural and historical background. But he emphasized there are some differences in the use of Chinese between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, therefore the conference will look for ways to bridge these differences. The subject of this conference mainly focuses on “Chinese vocabulary.”
Experts will hold discussions on topics such as differences in vocabulary
between different societies and regions, and mutations from traditional Chinese
