Meeting parents-in-law in an awkward way

A young man from Tianjin who had never met his sweetheart's family got his
chance when he was taken for a burglar while outside her house in the wee hours
last week.
Having escorted his girlfriend home at midnight that day, he stayed outside
her house and looked around out of curiosity.
Seeing a stranger looking into his house, the girl's father mistook him for a
burglar and called his neighbours for help.
