A new investigation conducted by a Hong Kong-based teaching investigation institution shows that 30 percent of Hong Kong students are considering enrolling in mainland universities, Xinhuanet.com reported.

Eighty percent of the 3,000 secondary students in their last year of high school surveyed expressed a desire to continue their studies with 30 percent expressing an interest in enrolling in mainland universities. Only four percent had no information about mainland universities, according to a survey report.

Hong Kong students pay lower tuition and living fees at mainland universities, and the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) now recognize university degrees acquired from either area.

The Hong Kong SAR and population should establish programs to inform Hong Kong students about mainland universities, the report said.
