A Shanghai Jiaotong University junior student, Wang Chun (a pseudonym), has posted an advertisement on the campus Bulletin Board System (BBS), seeking a husband on behalf of his mother.

Some net citizens support Wang, but he has been criticized for his "over the top" posting, according to the Shanghai Morning Post this Monday.

Wang described his mother's past marriages on BBS and looked for a suitable single man from the university who could look after his "beautiful and kind mother."

He also put a recent photo of his mum on the BBS site.

This posting immediately provoked public debate. Some people wished Wang and his mother well, while others cast doubt on their intentions. Some netizens thought people from older generations like Wang's mother couldn't find Mr. Right on campus through Internet advertising.

Wang Chun, a lanky youth, said he just wanted his mother to be happy.

"My mother is 47 years old now but she has been divorced twice," Wang said,

"Because my dormitory is far away from home, she's always unhappy when I tell her I am not going home at the weekend."

"I should try my best to help her find a good husband," Wang said.

Wang said that his mother has resorted to dating agencies several times but in the end she wasn't happy with the results.

"I just want to find a trustworthy husband from the university for my mother. A single teacher or a single father from one of my schoolmates' families for example," Wang sighed in response to criticism.

Wang said five potential candidates have contacted him to date and he doesn't plan to quit his search just because of some people's doubts.
