Jennifer Aniston has been dumped once again, this time by musician John Mayer - but the pair are staying on good terms, it has been reported.

Celebrity website Mirror.co.uk reported Aniston, 38, and Mayer, 30, decided to spend some time apart before making the split official earlier this week.

The couple were rumoured to be talking about getting married.

"There's been a bit of tension for some time," a source close Mayer told the website.

"They initially opted for a break, hoping a trial split might make them stronger. Sadly it doesn't seem to have worked.

"John took the decision to end things as he felt he just wasn't ready for the level of commitment that Jennifer deserved."

The source said Aniston was sad and "a little heartbroken".

Aniston, the former star of hit TV sitcom Friends, has been unlucky in love since her high-profile divorce from Brad Pitt.

She has had relationships with British model Paul Sculfor and Vince Vaughn, her co-star in The Break-Up.

Pitt has continued his relationship with Angelina Jolie, celebrating the arrival of twins just a month ago.
