IT firm focuses on smart city solution

IT services provider Digital China Holdings said on June 13 that it aims to have 100 billion yuan ($15.8 billion) in sales revenue during China's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) .

The company, which reported record high annual sales revenue of $9.06 billion from April 2011 to March 2012, is trying to change its focus to smart city solutions.

"Although 50 percent of our sales revenue is still from distribution channel sales, based on cloud computing and applications for the mobile Internet, smart city solutions will be our core strategy this year," said Lin Yang, CEO of the company.

"E-government services will be our focus in the next five years. Governments are now placing more emphasis on service than on creating red tape," he added.

Under the smart city concept, citizens won't need to carry several cards such as the ID card and health care cards - one card will concentrate all the services. Additionally, local government bureaus will be able to be connected to each other on a united e-platform.

More than 60 cities including Zhengzhou, Nanjing and Shenzhen have signed agreements with Digital China to build smart city projects.

In Yangzhou, the company provided a card which combines more than 20 government bureaus' services, including health care, public transportation and ID.
