Apple CEO gets glimpse of Lost Murals documentary
Apple CEO Tim Cook took in a documentary photography exhibition in Beijing on Saturday after viewing the trailer for the documentary film In Search of the Lost Murals.
Cook listened as director Chen Yi explained how Apple devices were used throughout the filmmaking process. Cook also observed a facsimile of a mural which is a masterpiece of Yuan Dynasty art, originally from Guangsheng Temple in Shanxi, and recreated by the Chinese National Academy of Arts.
The film follows Zhang Jian, director of the academy's meticulous painting institute, and his team as they use a combination of traditional techniques and digital tools to reproduce the iconic mural.
During the project, the team used high-precision cameras and MacBooks for image capture and color management, while others used iPads during the painting stage to ensure exceptional color accuracy. For shooting in tight heritage spaces, director Chen relied on an iPhone, monitoring footage in real time on iPad.
After viewing the works, Cook said it is wonderful that the story will be available to audiences around the world.
