China on Wednesday reiterated its call for an immediate stop to military operations against Iran, saying that no country has the right to dominate international affairs, dictate the destiny of others, monopolize development advantages, or impose its will on the world.

"China maintains that mutual respect and equality between all countries, big or small, is what progress through history demands and also the primary principle of the United Nations Charter," Lou Qinjian, spokesman for the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress, said at a news conference ahead of the opening of its annual session.

He made the remarks when asked about concerns within the international community regarding the breakdown of the global governance system and weakening of the role of the United Nations as unilateralism and the use of force in international relations are on the rise.

Lou said China is closely following the situation in Iran and stressed that its' sovereignty, security and territorial integrity must be respected.

"China calls for an immediate stop to military operations, preventing further escalation of tensions, resuming dialogue and negotiations to uphold peace and stability in the Middle East. To this end, China will continue to play its role as a responsible major country," he added.

The spokesman noted that facing a changing and turbulent world, peaceful development and win-win cooperation are the only way out.

According to Lou, the Global Governance Initiative put forward by China stresses the need to uphold sovereign equality, abide by international rule of law, practice multilateralism, advocate a people-centered approach and focus on taking real actions.

"This is a Chinese solution for making the global government system more just and equitable," he said.

"As a major country of the world and permanent member of the UN Security Council, China is ready to work with all countries to firmly uphold the authority and status of the UN, firmly uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, practice true multilateralism to make greater contributions to reforming and improving global governance and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for humanity," Lou said.
