Chinese mainland pledges to advance cause of national reunification
BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland will resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence" separatist activities and external interference, unite Taiwan compatriots, promote the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait, and advance the cause of national reunification in 2026, a spokesperson said Wednesday.
Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks during a regular press conference in response to media inquiries.
Reflecting on the previous year, Chen said 2025 was one in which cross-Strait relations forged ahead despite challenges, and the cause of national reunification gained momentum.
He stated that efforts were made to elevate cross-Strait exchanges, cooperation and integrated development, and that strong capabilities were demonstrated in curbing "Taiwan independence" separatist activities and external interference.
"The wheels of history are rolling on toward national reunification and national rejuvenation," Chen said. "The complete reunification of the motherland must be and will surely be realized."
