Gu Man's best-seller shines on-screen
Shine on Me, a romance series adapted from writer Gu Man's best-selling novel, has been released domestically and overseas since Dec 22, simultaneously streaming on over 10 platforms.
Produced by Xixi Pictures and Tencent Video, the drama unfolds as a romantic tale of love and personal growth. After a car accident ends his surgical career, Lin Yusen, played by Song Weilong, shifts to the business world. At his new company, Lin meets Nie Xiguang, portrayed by Zhao Jinmai, a recent college graduate who had caught his eye at a party two years earlier. Though misunderstandings arise at first, the two grow closer and fall in love, enabling Nie to move beyond a lingering campus infatuation with a former classmate.
The screenplay was written by novelist Gu, whose popular romantic novels have often been adapted for film and television. Writing from a female perspective, she employs her signature style to offer a nuanced portrayal of women's inner emotional worlds.
With Yang Xiaopei serving as the chief producer and art director, the drama directed by Chen Zhoufei was filmed across multiple cities: Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Baishan, and Dunhuang. Capturing the gentle elegance of the southern areas and the vast openness of the north, the story traces the subtle emotional evolution of its protagonists.
The drama currently tops the list of most popular new series on industry tracker Maoyan Pro, with its streaming episodes and related social media topics accumulating over 417 million views.
