The 2026 Xi'an City Wall Lantern Festival will be launched on New Year's Day, extending its radiance for an unprecedented 81 days until March 22. It aims to blend visual spectacle with cultural immersion, inviting visitors to explore the deep historical and poetic roots of the ancient capital.

The festival is structured around three core cultural threads: "Revitalized National Treasures", "Poetic Charm of Chang'an" and "Galloping Zodiac Horse".

Through collaboration with museums across Shaanxi, more than 50 significant cultural relics will be reinterpreted as luminous lantern installations, transforming the fortification into a glowing, open-air gallery of history.

Alongside the lantern displays, interactive poetry corridors, Tang-style performances, and curated spring marketplaces will enhance the visitor experience. Activities such as lantern-making workshops, cultural fairs, and the display of Spring Festival couplets on the city gates will further weave traditional customs into the festive atmosphere.

This year's edition represents an innovative approach to cultural revival, merging technology, art, and culture to create a dynamic and engaging celebration.

By extending the event's duration and deepening its thematic content, the Xi'an City Wall Lantern Festival continues to strengthen its status as an iconic cultural landmark, offering a luminous journey through time during the spring season.
