At the third Saudi International Handicrafts Week held in Riyadh from Nov 13 to 26, China, this year's guest of honor, set up a special pavilion showcasing traditional craftsmanship. Among the highlights was the vibrant presentation of Yangjiabu Woodblock New Year Prints, a national intangible cultural heritage from Weifang, Shandong province, showcased by master artisan Yang Naidong.

Yang's booth featured a rich collection of woodblock prints, blending both traditional ink line designs and colorful, multi-layered prints. Attendees were invited to explore the intricate process behind each piece, from initial sketches to the final printed artwork. Yang demonstrated the techniques that define Yangjiabu prints, such as the carving of woodblocks and the complex process of layering colors — elements that give these prints their unique character.

Originating from Yangjiabu village in Weifang, these woodblock prints have been an integral part of the local culture for centuries. Traditionally used to celebrate Chinese New Year, the prints often carry themes of prosperity, happiness, and good fortune. By introducing this exceptional art form to an international audience, Yang Naidong provided a window into Weifang's rich artistic heritage, promoting cross-cultural dialogue and appreciation.
