Cultural ties between China and Austria continue to deepen as both countries prepare to celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.

Earlier this month, the China Preliminary of the Salzburg China Day International Choral Art Week was held at the Beijing Central Opera House, bringing together 21 choirs from the two nations. Their performances — from Jasmine Flower to selections from The Sound of Music — offered audiences a glimpse of the cultural program planned for Salzburg next year.

Austrian ambassador to China, Wolf Dietrich Heim, attended the event and emphasized the role of music in strengthening bilateral relations.

"Music and culture are universal languages that connect hearts," he says, noting that Salzburg, Mozart's hometown and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage city, will host the 2026 "China Day" as part of the anniversary celebrations.

Initiated by TSG Tourismus Salzburg GmbH and the Youtuo Classical Music Institute (Vienna), the project aims to promote cultural dialogue, youth engagement and broader cooperation between the two countries.

The main event will take place on Feb 21 in Salzburg, featuring choral performances alongside economic forums, cultural exhibitions and youth innovation activities.

Organizers say they hope the initiative will further strengthen people-to-people exchanges and inspire long-term collaboration across artistic and economic fields.
