Jino heritage performance hits the stage in Beijing
On Sunday, the world premiere of The Ocean Etched in the Forest, a groundbreaking music-theater piece composed by Pulitzer Prize winner Du Yun, was held in Beijing.
The work explores the rich cultural heritage of the Jino people, one of China's last officially recognized ethnic groups, and integrates traditional music and rituals with modern artistic forms.
New York-based Du was born in Shanghai and is renowned for her commitment to social issues and innovative music. She recently shifted her focus to exploring cultural roots within a globalized context. The Ocean Etched in the Forest embodies the philosophy of her initiative, Future Tradition, where the key to modernity lies in understanding and creatively transforming traditional practices.
