A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Longxi county in Gansu province on Saturday, resulting in six minor injuries and damage to more than 100 buildings, according to official reports.

The quake, which occurred at 5:49 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, was centered near Xianrenwen village in Wenfeng town. Following the tremor, the Gansu Provincial Fire and Rescue Department activated its emergency response protocol.

As of late Saturday morning, there were no reports of any fatalities as a result of the quake, although six people who sustained minor injuries have been transported to local hospitals for treatment. Initial reports indicate that the earthquake resulted in eight buildings collapsing, with damage caused to around 110 others.

By Saturday morning, the first emergency teams from the local fire brigade had reached the epicenter and were conducting door-to-door inspections, clearing roads and evaluating the situation. Rescue forces from provincial, municipal and county levels have also been deployed to the affected area.

The earthquake has impacted transport in the region, with three train routes temporarily suspended as a precaution.

Rescue personnel are now focused on assessing and securing critical infrastructure, including power and communication lines. A comprehensive investigation into the full extent of the damage is ongoing.
