All direct cross-border bus services between Guangdong province and Hong Kong were suspended from noon on Tuesday as Super Typhoon Ragasa approaches, local transportation authorities said.

The suspension, involving 1,044 bus trips, has greatly affected road transportation as the cross-border bus services cover more than 10 cities in Guangdong with numerous routes, according to Guangdong Transportation Group.

Also, traffic control measures were implemented for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, a mega cross-sea bridge in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, on Tuesday, according to the transportation group.

Starting at 3 pm on Tuesday, the Cuiheng East toll station entrance of the bridge was closed, and the mainline and toll station entrances in both directions will be closed starting from 8 pm.

Ragasa, the 18th typhoon of this year, is forecast to make landfall on Wednesday in the coastal area between Zhuhai and Xuwen county in Guangdong as a strong typhoon or super typhoon, with its wind force reaching from level 14 to level 16, according to local meteorological authorities.

As of noon on Tuesday, a Level I wind emergency response, the highest of China's four-tier warning system, had been initiated for 11 expressway sections within Guangdong, the transportation company said.

In several cities, including Chaozhou, Qingyuan, Foshan, Shanwei and Meizhou, some bus and rural passenger routes were also suspended on Tuesday.
