BEIJING -- The Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, will hold its 17th session in Beijing from Sept 8 to 12.

This decision was made Tuesday during a meeting of the Council of Chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee, which was presided over by Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.

During the upcoming session, lawmakers will review a slew of draft laws, including a draft atomic energy law, a draft law on public health emergency response, a draft law on national parks, a draft law on the safety management of hazardous chemicals, and other pressing issues.

A package of amendments to existing laws, including the Arbitration Law and the Prison Law, will also be reviewed during the session.

The meeting noted that lawmakers will deliberate on a series of proposals, including one for reviewing the draft revisions to the Cybersecurity Law, and one for reviewing an extradition treaty between China and the Republic of Serbia.

In addition, several reports by the State Council, namely the report on the implementation of the 2025 plan for national economic and social development, the report on the budget execution, and the report on government debt management in 2024, among others, will be reviewed during the upcoming session.

At Tuesday's meeting, the NPC Financial and Economic Affairs Committee's analytical report on China's economic performance this year, as well as a report on the handling of public complaints by the administrative bodies of the NPC since February 2025, were reviewed.
