In Zingkar village, Dingri county, one of the hardest-hit areas, 126 newly built houses have been completed. During the reconstruction work, villager Norbu visited the site almost every day to check on progress, and witnessed the new homes rising from the debris.

"The houses were built not only quickly, but also with great quality," said a grateful Norbu.

People in the disaster-stricken areas have not only been witnesses to the transformation, they have also been active participants in the reconstruction work.

"Now we have successfully moved into our new homes, my fellow villagers are particularly happy and very energetic towards life," said Basang, a village official in Zingkar.

According to official plans, a further 1,145 households comprising more than 8,300 quake-affected residents will gradually move into their new homes by Aug 20. The rest of all affected residents will be moved into their new residences by the end of October.
