The family's years-long battle against MPS has taken a heavy toll on them, with Meng exhausting all of the family's savings and accumulating a lot of debts to treat his sons. At one point, medication costs reached 8,000 to 9,000 yuan per month for over 20 different drugs after his younger son's surgery. During the hardest times, Meng even cried alone under a bridge, but the thought of giving up never crossed his mind.

Despite these hardships, Meng's family has received an outpouring of kindness over the years. Relatives, friends, and charitable organizations have donated funds and essential goods. In addition, the delivery platform that Meng works for has granted him special relief funds, alongside customers who often showed understanding for occasional delivery delays.
