BEIJING -- Chinese procuratorates issued more than 2,000 written notices and procuratorial suggestions regarding cases of commutation, parole and temporary execution of sentence outside prison in the first six months of 2025, China's top procuratorate announced Tuesday.

The notices and suggestions were issued to urge relevant departments to rectify unlawful or irregular practices in the handling of these instances, as part of China's effort to enhance supervision to ensure lawful and just enforcement of punishment, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate.

The SPP noted that, in the first six months of 2025, commutation, parole and temporary execution of sentence outside prison cases involving more than 130,000 individuals were handled by procuratorates nationwide.

Procuratorial organs have, additionally, been continuously urging the rectification of supervision and law enforcement problems found in correctional facilities during special inspection tours conducted in 2024.

They have been following up and supervising the handling of clues about judicial staff's job-related crimes — such as favoritism and fraud, abuse of power and abuse of detainees.
