Zhou Jiabin, former deputy director of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and former Party chief of Guilin in Guangxi, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office for serious violations of disciplines and laws, the country's top anti-corruption watchdogs said.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision announced the decision on its website on Friday afternoon after an investigation.

The investigation found that Zhou had lost his ideals and convictions, abandoned his original mission, engaged in political opportunism, and resisted investigations into his conduct, according to the statement.

Zhou was found to have illegally accepted gifts and banquets prohibited by the Party's frugality rules. He also sought illegal profits for others, with illegal engagement in project contracting and job promotion and involvement in exchanges of power, sex and money, it said.

The amount of bribes involved in Zhou's case was particularly huge, the circumstances were especially serious, and the social impact was extremely bad.

In line with Party regulations and laws, a decision was made to expel him from the Party, remove him from public office and confiscate his illicit gains.
