FREETOWN -- The 26th Chinese medical team to Sierra Leone on Saturday provided free medical consultations to children at the Saint George Foundation Children's Welfare Institute in Freetown, the capital of the western African country.

During the event, held in commemoration of the upcoming Day of the African Child observed annually on June 16, children received medical check-ups, along with school supplies and food donated by the Chinese delegation.

"We are honored to bring warmth and compassion to these children today," said Liu Longfei, head of the medical team. "Since our arrival in Sierra Leone, we have maintained our commitment to putting people and life first, ensuring that we serve those in need."

Liu noted the event featured a wide range of activities beyond medical services, including traditional Chinese medicine therapies, Chinese language classes, food tastings, and traditional games.

"I wish every child good health, happiness, and a bright future. May the friendship between China and Sierra Leone thrive and be passed on from generation to generation," Liu said.

Justina Zainab Conteh, executive director of the Saint George Foundation, expressed her appreciation for the team's support.

"Medical services have always posed a challenge, as it can be costly to transport children to hospitals. This initiative celebrating the Day of the African Child significantly enhances our healthcare delivery efforts," she said.
