Spotlight on Chinese aesthetics, Western tailoring as fashion week opens in Beijing
The AW2025 Beijing Fashion Week kicked off its inaugural ceremony on Wednesday evening, with the theme of "Rise of the Orient", highlighting the fusion of traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern Western tailoring, featuring a high-profile fashion show by luxury women's brand SOME ZEAM.
Liu Meiying, deputy secretary-general of Beijing's municipal government, emphasized the city's role as a cultural and international consumption hub in the country, underscoring the fashion week's mission to revitalize intangible cultural heritage, lead the industry, and promote cross-cultural dialogue.
From March 19 to 24, the fashion week will welcome international brands and emerging designers from China, France, Italy, South Korea, and Georgia, showcasing men's, women's, children's wear, and haute couture.
The closing show will be headlined by French designer Irakli Nasidzé, in collaboration with Georgian jewelry brand Zarapkhana.
