Major progress seen on highway tunnel
State builders working on a highway linking inland cities in Sichuan and Gansu provinces report progress on a major tunnel in Nanchong, Sichuan. China Railway Construction Corp said its 24th bureau, which is partly undertaking construction of the Langzhong-Yingshan expressway, bored through one lane of the Binzishan tunnel in mountainous Nanchong, representing a solid step toward its scheduled opening to traffic in 2026. The Langzhong-Yingshan expressway aims to promote connections between inland provinces, especially Gansu and Shaanxi, as the north reach of the expressway is connected to another conduit linking Longnan, Gansu, according to the 24th bureau of China Railway Construction Corp.
Renminbi weakens against greenback
The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, weakened 141 pips to 7.1927 against the US dollar on Tuesday, said the China Foreign Exchange Trade System. In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.
