China has stated that defense cooperation between countries should not target any specific country or undermine regional peace and stability.

China's Ministry of National Defense spokesman Wu Qian asserted on Friday that the nation's activities in the South China Sea are justified, lawful and beyond reproach.

Wu highlighted that certain non-regional countries frequently dispatch military vessels and aircraft to the South China Sea with the intention to "flex muscle", forming alliances to create "small cliques" against China, and even employing threats and coercion under the guise of a so-called mutual defense treaty. These actions are deemed irresponsible and pose significant dangers.

Wu emphasized that the South China Sea serves as a shared home for countries in the region. He said China remains dedicated to resolving differences through peaceful dialogue and consultation, while firmly opposing external interference and provocations that contribute to regional tensions.

Recently, the Philippine side has adopted a dual approach, he added. On the one hand, it has sought external forces to interfere in the South China Sea issue and intruded into China's Nansha Islands. On the other hand, the Philippines has employed its propaganda machinery to amplify the narrative of "the big bullying the small," portraying itself as a victim.

Wu stressed the Chinese side is strongly opposed to this. He further asserted that the resolution of the South China Sea issue should be guided by reason rather than the size or power of the involved parties.

China never bullies other countries, he stated. But China will never allow the Philippine side to act wilfully, he added.

Wu said the Chinese military can be relied upon to fulfill its commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and security.
