Shanghai's two airports received some 13.76 million passenger trips and handled 89,000 flight landings and takeoffs during this year's Spring Festival travel rush that concluded on Monday, hitting a record high among the annual peak traveling periods, according to the Shanghai Airport Authority.

Over the 40-day rush period Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport received 67.7 percent more passenger trips year-on-year. And a total of 89,000 flights landed or took off during the same period, up 33.7 percent year-on-year.

As many as 2,361 flights either landed in or departed the city's two airports on February 8 - the second last day of the Year of Rabbit - while some 395,000 passenger trips were handled via Shanghai's airports on February 15 (the sixth day of the Year of Dragon), setting single-day records during the annual peak traveling period.

Being the city's major aviation operator, China Eastern Airlines carried out more than 44,000 flights and served more than 6.85 million passenger trips over the 40-day period.

Nationwide, the carriers under China Eastern Air Holding Co Ltd conducted 106,800 flights and served about 16.5 million passenger trips throughout the 40 days, up 31 percent and 54 percent year-on-year, respectively.
