The 10th awarding ceremony of the Sun Pinghua Academic Fund for Japanese Studies took place in Beijing on Thursday. Established by the Soong Ching Ling Foundation in 1997, the fund aims to recognize scholars who have made exceptional contributions to the field of Japanese studies.

According to Shen Beili, vice-president of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, this year's ceremony held special significance as it coincided with the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Sino-Japanese Peace and Friendship Treaty. The project has attracted a growing number of young scholars who are dedicated to Japanese studies and contribute to Sino-Japanese cultural exchange and friendship.

The number of submissions for this edition reached a new high. The diverse and extensive coverage of fields reflects the new development and vitality in the study of Japanese culture within China. Shen expressed her hope that the award will continue to play a crucial role in strengthening youth exchanges between China and Japan, contributing to the inheritance of friendly relations between the two countries.

"The foundation is committed to working with various sectors to build platforms that promote cooperation and exchange between China and Japan. This collaborative effort aims to continually enhance mutual understanding, deepen friendships and facilitate the healthy development of Sino-Japanese relations," she added.

One of the award recipients, Gao Yang, an associate professor at Tsinghua University, emphasized that the exploration of Japanese studies goes beyond the ocean of knowledge, rather, it serves as a bridge for cultural understanding and a link for emotional communication.

She expressed gratitude for the recognition conferred by the award, considering it an important encouragement. In her future research endeavors, Gao pledged to maintain rigorous academic standards, pursue excellence and continue making positive contributions to Sino-Japanese cultural exchange in the field of Japanese studies.
