Quickly garnering more than 380 million yuan ($53.2 million) in just three days, One and Only has soared to be one of the biggest blockbusters in the competitive summer box- office season.
Under the helm of actor-turned director Dong Chengpeng, better known by his stage name Da Peng, the movie stars actor Huang Bo as a street-dance veteran, following the character’s encounter with a young talent, portrayed by pop idol Wang Yibo, whom he invites to join his club. However, as they pursue their dreams, they face unforeseen challenges along the way.
The movie represents Dong’s second directorial venture, following last year’s comedy film Post Truth, to be screened in IMAX theaters. It concludes with a captivating street-dance competition that lasts for the final 20 minutes, providing a visually stunning spectacle.
The film, which was released on Friday, has currently earned 7.5 points out of 10 on the popular review aggregator Douban.
