The Chinese military has dispatched naval vessels to Sudan on Wednesday to evacuate Chinese citizens as security situation in the country continue to worsen, the Ministry of National Defense said in a statement on Thursday.

Wu Xi, director-general of the Foreign Ministry's Department of Consular Affairs, told China Central Television on Wednesday night that the People's Liberation Army has urgently deployed military ships that were in the Gulf of Aden to rush to Sudan to carry out evacuation operations and over 1,100 Chinese nationals have been safely evacuated from Sudan, including residents from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The feat makes China the country with the largest number of organized evacuations since Sudan's internal conflicts began, Wu added.

On Sunday, Wu said armed conflicts have occurred in Khartoum, the capital city of Sudan, and many other places around the country. President Xi Jinping had made important instructions on strengthening the protection of safety and security of Chinese citizens and institutions in Sudan.

China would try every means to protect the lives, properties and safety of over 1,500 Chinese compatriots in Sudan, Wu added.
