State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that China believes ASEAN has ability and wisdom to adhere to the ASEAN-led approach to push for a solution of the Myanmar issue.

He made the remarks when meeting with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai on the sidelines of ASEAN-plus foreign ministers' meeting in Cambodian capital Phnom Penh. Don expressed Thailand's concern over the current Myanmar situation.

Wang said China believes that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations should adhere to the ASEAN-way and promote the soft-landing of the Myanmar situation through dialogue and consultation, as well as on the basis of non-interference in the internal affairs.

In the meantime, efforts should be made to guard against interference of outside forces to further complicate the situation, Wang said, adding China would continue to play a constructive role in its own way.

Don thanked China for supporting ASEAN, saying Thailand would make efforts to uphold ASEAN unity and is committed to properly solving the Myanmar issue.
