A senior Chinese diplomat warned Washington on Wednesday not to play the "Taiwan card", saying such a move now from the United States could create a perilous situation.
Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks in a telephone conversation with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
Yang said China would certainly take resolute action to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and interests, and reiterated that it means what it says.
