Da explains that visuals will be spurred by the music itself, with "each note transformed into highly accurate digital signals and wirelessly transmitted to computer programs, generating visuals and triggering stage lights. The concert transforms into an organic visual music experience, creating a synthetic space rich in musical expression."

He describes Nirvana as an experimental collaboration drawing on the skills of performers, composers, designers and engineers to expand and disrupt classical music. "We are extremely blessed to have Xiangjun as our pianist - she possesses artistic vision and technical virtuosity," Da says. "Her courage in accepting challenges and risks perfectly matches our shared philosophy of breaking comfort zones."

"To reach 50 years is a significant moment," affirms Ho. "We are very privileged to build upon strong foundations. Laila and other art tech performances show that it is important to be relevant today while being conscious of what the future may bring."

Tisa Ho Kar-kuan, executive director of Hong Kong Arts Festival, says the prominence of tech-driven shows in the festival’s 50th edition indicates "it is important to be relevant today while being conscious of what the future may bring". [PHOTO PROVIDED TO CHINA DAILY]
