China's easternmost high-speed railway started test operations on Thursday as it prepares to open in late September, the China Harbin Railway Group said.

The 372-kilometer track, connecting Jiamusi and Mudanjiang in northeastern China's Heilongjiang province, was built to endure extremely cold temperatures. The trains are designed to run at a top speed of 250 km per hour.

According to the group, the railway's operator, practices including emergency response drills will be conducted during the testing.
