WUHAN -- Wuhan, the capital city of Central China's Hubei province, once hit hard by COVID-19 in 2020, registered a 28.6 percent growth in its gross domestic product (GDP) in the first half (H1) of this year.

The GDP of Wuhan totaled nearly 825.15 billion yuan (about $127.37 billion) in H1, according to the municipal statistics bureau. The figure was up 3.5 percent from that of the same period in 2019, showing a good momentum related to economic recovery and development.

The industrial output of the city's major enterprises increased 32.5 percent year-on-year in the January-June period, with the manufacture of computers, communications devices and other electronic equipment seeing double-digit growth.

In the first half of 2021, Wuhan's fixed-asset investment rose 77.5 percent from the same period last year.

Wuhan has achieved the preliminary goal of making up for the negative growth due to COVID-19 last year, said Jiang Yu, deputy director of the Wuhan statistics bureau.
