Cui's Long March-themed works are now on show at the Beijing Culture and Creativity Industry Exhibition Center until June 22.

The biggest painting is Crossing Snow Mountains, 10 meters in length and 2.4 meters in height, in which Cui depicts the tedious circumstances the poorly-equipped Red Army soldiers confronted, when climbing over several high-altitude mountains in Southwest China, seen as the worst part of the Long March.

He heavily applied dark, blue and grey to suggest the great difficulties, such as altitude sickness, hunger and coldness, and in between he dotted the canvas with red flags to brighten up the painting and imply the final success.

The exhibition will later travel to cities once serving as CPC's revolutionary bases, such as Yan'an in Shaanxi province, Nanchang in Jiangxi province and Zunyi in Guizhou province.
