PARIS -- The Formula One Singapore Grand Prix on October 3 has been called off due to COVID-19 restrictions for the second year in a row, organizers announced on Friday.

Colin Syn, the deputy chairman of the Singapore GP, said in a statement, "We understand that our fans were looking forward to another edition of the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix."

"To cancel the event for a second year is an incredibly difficult decision, but a necessary one in light of the prevailing restrictions for live events in Singapore."

The news comes following the cancelation of the Canadian GP and the postponement of races in China and Turkey, and with many countries and regions still battling COVID-19, several other races later in the season are thought to be in doubt.

Formula One organizers "will continue to work with all promoters during this fluid time and have several options for additional races," with a second race in the United States and a revival of the Turkey and China events all thought to be possible options.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place at the Baku City Circuit this weekend.
