The fourth edition of China International Import Expo will set up a special section for fashion and jewellery, the organizer said at an online webinar on Jan 29.

The new 30,000-square-meter section will feature high-end apparel, shoes, bags and jewels from international brands and groups such as Tapestry, Dolce & Gabbana and Swarovski.

The consumption market in China has proven to be resilient during the COVID-19 global pandemic, with retail sales achieving positive growth since last August.

"The middle and high-end retail sector in China is very dynamic as the country has around 400 million middle-class consumers who pay more attention to brands and are more willing to pay for fashionable products," said Liu Fuxue, deputy director-general of CIIE Bureau.

"More than half of the planned exhibition area has already been booked up," he added. "This shows that the CIIE is the best gateway for multinational companies to enter the Chinese market."

Yann Bozec, president of Tapestry Asia Pacific, said the company showcased six brands, including Coach and Kate Spade, during the past two editions, and received a "very positive" response after its products were officially launched into the market. Last year, the company made a commitment to participate in the next three editions of the CIIE.

"The 'CIIE effect' has been incredibly fruitful…We always believe in the 'China opportunity' and look forward to the fourth CIIE," said Bozec. "For us, China is not just a vital market, but also an inexhaustible source of inspiration for brands looking for breakthroughs and innovation."

Cooperation agreements between the CIIE Bureau and three other fashion companies, Dolce & Gabbana, Swarovski and Metal Jewelry Design Co Ltd, were signed during the webinar.
