Benevento promoted to Serie A
ROME - Italian second division side Benevento have been promoted to Serie A with seven rounds to spare after they beat Juve Stabia 1-0 on Monday.
Benevento, coached by former FIFA World Cup winner Filippo Inzaghi, have been top of the league since the tenth round of matches, and confirmation of their promotion was widely believed to be only a matter of time.
Having established a 24-point advantage over second-placed Crotone after Monday's fixtures, the Witches secured the Serie B title with seven matches left, which means they will have another Serie A experience after their debut in the top flight in the 2017-18 season.
The stage is also set for an intriguing derby next season, as high-flying Serie A side Lazio are coached by Inzaghi's younger brother Simone.
