Chinese singer Tan Jing, known for her performance at the Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, held a concert at the Sydney Opera House on Nov 11. With a full-house of over 2,000 audience, she performed her songs, including Over the Hill and Remote Romance. She also covered pop singer-songwriter Li Jian's hit, Lake Baikal and Jiu'er, a song written and first performed by singer-songwriter Han Hong.

To present traditional Chinese music to a wider audience, she invited erhu player Chen Jun and Tibetan folk singer Silang Kampot to perform in her concert.

She has donated part of the ticket revenues of the concert to a Chinese charity organization, Project Hope. Since 2014, Tan has donated musical instruments, equipment and classrooms to remote Chinese regions, such as Sichuan province, Yunnan province and Gansu province, benefitting over 3,000 children.

Born in Houma city, Shanxi province, Tan began learning piano at the age of 8 and started singing at 11 with her mother, who was a singer with a local art troupe. In 1994, she enrolled to study vocal performance at China Conservatory of Music. Her music blends bel canto, Chinese folk music, and popular singing styles.
