Theresa May made her last appearance in Downing Street as prime minister on Wednesday afternoon, where she told reporters she wishes her successor, Boris Johnson, "good fortune in the years ahead".

"To serve as prime minister of the UK is a great honor," she said. "You achieve nothing alone and so my final words are of sincere thanks to my colleagues."

Earlier she took part in her final "question time" in the Houses of Parliament where politicians on all sides of the house wished her well as a backbench MP and thanked her for her dedication, whether they agreed with her politics or not.

May had led the UK since 2016 during a period that was overshadowed by the UK's pending departure from the European Union.
