Theresa May made her last appearance as prime minister in the United Kingdom's Houses of Parliament on Wednesday, where she took part in her final "question time" before handing over the reins to incoming leader Boris Johnson.

May, who has led the country since 2016, said she was "pleased" to hand on to Johnson who is "a man I worked with when he was in my Cabinet, who is a Conservative, and who ran on a manifesto to deliver Brexit".

Several politicians, both friend and foe, praised her for her sense of duty and hard work during her time in office.

She intends to continue to serve as a member of Parliament representing the constituency of Maidenhead, a community she has championed since 1997.
