Burang borders Nepal to the south and India to the west. The Chungla Mountain pass, with an altitude of 5,200 meters and 23 kilometers away from the county town, is an officially appointed path for Indian pilgrims.

Zhong Yueqi, a staff member at the Burang Entry-Exit Border Inspection Station, said because the area is covered by snow all year round, many Indian pilgrims had suffered high altitude sicknesses such as polypnea and tachycardia on Thursday.

"Emergency medical aid was provided in time by the local entry-exit border control station, and supportive services such as guides and porters were also provided to make the entry easier for the pilgrims," said Zhong.
