Neymar under UEFA's investigation for inappropriate statement
PARIS -- UEFA said on Wednesday that they have opened a disciplinary investigation into Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar's inappropriate statement after a Champions League match.
PSG lost to Premier League side Manchester United 3-1 at home in Champions League round of 16 second leg on March 6, causing them to bow out from the competition due to inferior away goals at 3-3 on aggregate.
Match referee awarded the visitors a penalty late in the match following a VAR review. Marcus Rashford's strike sent PSG packed.
Neymar, who underwent recovery from his foot injury, watched from the stands at the Parc des Princes. He furiously turned to abusive words towards video assistant referees on social media.
"A disciplinary investigation has been initiated based on the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations in connection with the statements made by Paris Saint-Germain player Neymar Junior following the match," said UEFA in a statement.
The world's most expensive player could face further match suspension from UEFA. If inflicted, that could be implemented next season due to PSG's elimination in this campaign.
