Jackie Chan, Hong Kong movie star and a member of the 13th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, reviewed his endeavor to strike poverty in 2018 on Wednesday amid the group discussion of the annual session of top political advisory body.

In last year's session, he proposed organizing filmmakers to participate in the national campaign against poverty.

Following his initiative, filmmakers in 29 groups went to help local villagers in 16 counties nationwide. A-list stars like Wu Jing and Li Bingbing were among the celebrities joining the charity program.

As a method for sustainable development, they promoted local farm produce for free through an online shopping website and drafted plans for the villages to develop tourism.

Many achievements were made during the three-month effort from September to December.

For example, in Jiaxian county, Northwest China's Shaanxi province, about 50 million kilograms of dates, a local specialty, were sold during the one-week National Day holiday in October 2018, an increase of 20 percent compared to the same time in 2017, Chan said.

The Hong Kong star told China Daily that the project will continue this year and become a regular event covering more poverty-stricken areas in the country.
