China hopes the United States can join efforts with the country to explore appropriate ways to promote cooperation and resolve differences between the world's two largest economies, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.

Gao Feng, the ministry's spokesman, said China hopes the two sides can boost healthy and stable development of relations in the future.

The country is open to resume negotiations with the US on bilateral investment agreement, and to initiate talks on bilateral free trade agreement at a proper time, Gao said. "But regrettably, the US has not demonstrated its sincerity," he added.

The US escalated trade conflict that could harm global trade and investment by imposing tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars on Chinese goods over the recent few months, which forced China to retaliate.

China has been actively integrated into the global economic system, and the country has not and will not engage in "economic invasion", the Ministry of Commerce said.

The Ministry Spokesman Gao Feng made the comments to respond United States Vice-President Mike Pence's accusation about China in a speech last week.

China does not deny the contribution made by US investments to its economic development, Gao said at a news conference.

However, the country's development was rooted in its reform and opening-up policy over the past 40 years, as well as Chinese people's diligence, Gao stressed.
