Dancing grandma captures attention online for her winning performances
A grandmother from the city of Chengdu in Sichuan Province has become a hit online thanks to a video of her performance at the 9th World Dance Sport Festival in Chengdu in early September.
Xu Tong's skillful performance took many people by surprise. But this was not the 79-year-old's first appearance on the dance floor. Chengdu Economic Daily reports that she has won 82 awards, including 44 championships, and 22 silver and 16 bronze medals, in dnational championship competitions since 2003.
Xu Tong said that dancing has lifted her spirits and is a good activity for seniors. Her dance partner, a 72-year-old man named Zhuang, said that being happy is the most important thing, and that dancing makes him happy.
The pair took third place for their latest performance at the dance sport festival in Chengdu.
